This year was great for Amazon Echo, taking up two-thirds of the smart speaker market. Usage is also expected to rise next year by 15% these smart devices. However, unlike before, there is more competition than ever in the market. Amazon may be the top dog now, but Google, Apple, and Sonos are making their way up and finding ways to capture the market and try to pull the Echo back down.
Walmart's testing In-House Visual search
Walmart obtained Hayneedle, a furniture retailer in 2016 through an acquisition. With this company, they are now testing out in-house visual search to try and compete against Google. Walmart wants to continue to improve the customer experience and an insight they had was that, with furniture, many people don't know what they're actually looking for and can be overwhelmed with all the offers. They hope this can help fix that issue.
